If you keep an eye on the crazy world of US politics you might have come across this phrase recently. It refers to the Democratic party changing candidate late in the election cycle and therefore having to remodel their campaign at the same time it's being rolled out.
I thought this interesting. It reminded me that we do that all the time. Does anyone really have the time to pause their lives, prepare for significant changes and put them into practice before picking up the threads of all the other things we need to do? Everyone has families, jobs and other commitments that mean we simply have to make these changes as we move forward - all in real time. It all has to be done in the context of living day by day and changing things as we go.
We are always refitting in flight.
This is, in reality, how we always evaluate and change - in the middle of living our lives. A mistake we can make is to put off these important changes in the hope that there'll be a quiet time at some point when we can truly focus on self improvement or change, that we can somehow be taken out of commission for a month or two to sort everything out, to really give ourselves the time to work on what matters, let go of what doesn't. Realistically we might slow down a little or take a week away but we are still living our lives even then - working on relationships, doing what needs done. Often we have to make important choices while lots of other things are going on and then assess the impact they have on other parts of our lives - all in real time.
So the Democrats are doing nothing special - we all do it! And if you are waiting for the plane to land before you make those changes be warned that it never really does. You will need to do them as the plane flies and the time to do that might be now.
